March, 2006 - Contemporary San Antonio
The Contemporary San Antonio tour designed by Friends of Architecture members Gilbert and Suzanne Mathews included visits to remarkable homes, gallery lofts, historic buildings along with a personally guided tour of the San Antonio Museum of Art with director Marion Oettinger.
February, 2006 - Hill Country Ranches
Our Hill Country Ranch tour sold out 3 times and we still had a waiting list. Ranging from a contemporary guest house to a stunning home perched on a cliff overlooking the Llano River and everything in between, The Hill Country Ranch Tour pulled out all the stops!
November, 2005 - The Houston Collection
Our Houston Tour, designed by Friends of Architecture member Clayton Morgan, took us through residential palaces designed by famed interiors personality Herbert Wells. Shifting from rich interiors to modern architecture we then crossed international borders touring an architectural award winning Vietnamese inspired family compound.
May, 2005 - Roma! Gardens and Villas of Rome
And you thought we only toured buildings! University of Texas at Austin's, Dean Fritz Steiner lead Friends of Architecture participants on an unforgettable week of exclusive, behind the scenes tours. Stops included the Vatican Gardens, Orto Botancio American Academy, Villa d'este in Tivoli, Villa Lante in Bagnasis and Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati.
June, 2004 - Marfa, Texas
Marfa, the next Santa Fe! Professor Larry Doll was our guide through this West Texas oasis. Visiting the works of art on exhibition at the Chinati Foundation which include Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, and John Chamberlin, complemented the beautiful natural landscapes of this west Texas region. Our tour concluded with a cocktail reception at the home of McDonald Observatory director Dr. Frank Bash and a private tour of the observatory.
